I’ve finally made it happen. The thing I’ve stayed shut up
about online for fear of jinxing it has come to pass. Well, I did mention it
once: when I made a statement of intent way back before Christmas in the nether
regions of South America. Now, available for the whole world to see and leave
glowingly positive reviews (or otherwise) on Amazon and Goodreads, is…
(Drum Roll, please.)
The Unwinding House and Other Stories by Yours J.
Truly.
Here’s the blurb:
In the ruins if a destroyed city, a scientist must solve
the mystery of a house that moves backwards in time. During the last days of a
dying planet, a celebrity daredevil races up a shimmering river. On a
plantation run by clockwork automata, a lowly technician must pit his wits
against an insane computer. Decades after the destruction of Earth, the crew of
a lonely spacecraft fights to see that one beloved species does not become
extinct. In a small town buffeted by storms, a young woman uncovers dark family
secrets in a battle between the living and the dead.
Step into the House and let these stories Unwind.
This anthology collects all of my stories that either saw
print or were performed aloud from 2010 – 2015 while I was writing in
Birmingham and organizing the Hoover Library Write Club. The collection took
longer than anticipated to produce for a number of reasons:
1. My wife and I had to come back from South
America and put our lives in order.
2. I wanted to put another 2 – 5 layers of polish
on these stories from the versions that already existed, and
3. I wanted to jump through all the legal hoops to
set up my own business, which is:
Second Earths Publishing is the name under which I’m
releasing The Unwinding House and, early next year, a revised, updated, and all-around better edition of my pulp novel The Whisper. But why
go through all that trouble just to publish my own books through Amazon?
Because that’s not the endgame. What I would love to do is
to start publishing other writers’ work as well. I’ve done this before with the
anthology Summer Gothic back in 2012. I’d like very much to do it again,
this time in the form of an online short fiction magazine. More details on that
endeavor will certainly be forthcoming. After all, I will be asking folks –
perhaps you! – to sell me stories.
For now, just click on through to the other side of this link and get yourself a copy of The Unwinding House. You lucky devils who
subscribe to Kindle Unlimited will even get to read it for free!
P.S. About that South America thing –
We survived! We came back! My travel blog at The EscapeHatch is still up and running, and you can find an index to all our adventures
in the southern hemisphere here. There’s no better way to pretend you’re being
productive at work than to spend time reading about travel to other parts of
the world, so Enjoy!
